Tooth Coloured Fillings

“Do I have a cavity ?” That’s the question nearly everyone’s thinking they make an appointment at the dentist. Whether it’s a nagging toothache or just a worry in the back of your mind, we can help. Signs of cavities may include toothaches, hot and cold sensitivity, and pain when chewing. Be aware however that cavities often have no symptoms at all— especially when they’re very small. At Enhance Dental Clinic, We will help you feel confident in your dental health. We will review your digital x-rays with you and talk about your risk of tooth decay. By identifying cavities early, your fillings will be smaller, take less time and less expensive, too. Regular checkups are important and allow us to be as conservative as possible when it comes to your care. We are doing a mercury-free practice. However, many people still have silver/mercury fillings in their mouths from years past. These fillings are not particularly pleasing to the eye, and we know that by unavoidable design, silver/mercury fillings ultimately result in a weaker tooth structure. Tooth colored restorations create fillings that are not only beautiful (or unnoticeable), but also add strength to weakened teeth. These restorations are aesthetically pleasing and very strong thanks to new bonding technologies.

DISADVANTAGES OF SILVER FILLINGS: Silver fillings have many drawbacks. The edges of the silver filling can wear down, become weak or break. This results in the tooth not being protected and creates an environment where cavities get started once again. With age, the metal of a silver filling expands, contracts, and can split. Silver fillings contain 50 percent mercury. They can corrode, leak, and cause stains on your teeth and gums. Fortunately, silver fillings can safely be replaced with tooth-colored restoration.
